What is a bridge camera?  It's a camera that "bridges" the categories of 35mm SLR and point-and-shoot.  The Olympus IS-20 is, specifically, a zoom bridge camera, because its integrated lens can zoom from a wide 28mm all the way to 110mm.

These cameras have become historical curiosities because there weren't as many of them made compared to traditional point-and-shoots or 35mm SLRs, but make no mistake, these were expensive in their day and they are still considered very good cameras that can yield very high quality images.  While the lens isn't interchangeable (part of why this is a "bridge" camera), the larger, glass elements in this lens outperform most of the small, compact, plastic lenses that filled out the millions of point-and-shoots manufactured in the 90s.  You also get a better image preview through the viewfinder.
